About Australian race meetings

Australia races almost every day of the year. Each state runs its own program: metropolitan meetings on Saturdays and midweek in the capitals, provincial meetings through the week, and country meetings and cups on weekends. Hong Kong races on Wednesday nights at Happy Valley and on Sundays at Sha Tin through a September to July season.

For every rated meeting RaceAlpha ranks the field, lays each runner's win chance over the market, flags its run style from sectional times we record ourselves, shows its ELO and writes a short read of the race. A play is logged before the race only when a runner matches a pattern that held up out of sample, and it is graded after the race in the public ledger.

Frequently asked questions

What time do race meetings start?

Australian meetings usually start between 11am and 2pm AEST; Hong Kong meetings run in the evening Australian time.

Metropolitan Saturday cards often run into the early evening, and Friday night meetings at Canterbury and Moonee Valley run under lights. Western Australia races two hours behind the east coast. Times on this page are local to the meeting.

Which meetings are rated?

Most Australian meetings and both Hong Kong tracks; the table above shows which of today's meetings are rated.

A rated meeting has every runner ranked with a win chance against the market, a run style, an ELO and a written read for each race. Some minor meetings are not rated.

When is the card updated?

Ratings land mid-morning AEST once fields, barriers, track condition and the opening market are in.

If the track condition changes the ratings are rerun. A play, once logged, keeps its logged price and time.

Do you cover international racing?

Hong Kong at Sha Tin and Happy Valley, with the same ratings and play rule as Australia.

Hong Kong is the only racing outside Australia we rate. New Zealand is not covered.
